Paul Allen Benavides

Paul Allen Benavides is an educator, speaker, communication practitioner, researcher, and entrepreneur whose career has moved across industries, countries, and professional environments.

His background includes military service in the United States Air Force, hospitality management, real estate finance, higher education, corporate training, media production, public speaking, and international business. Over the past decade, much of his professional and personal life has been shaped by living and working in China and Vietnam, giving him direct experience with the ways culture, language, hierarchy, confidence, and professional expectations influence communication.

As Founder and Principal Consultant of Walkabout Pathways, Paul leads the company’s work in communication development, leadership, public speaking, training design, research, and structured professional programs. His approach is strongly practice-based. Rather than treating communication as a collection of techniques, he examines how people think, organize ideas, respond under pressure, listen, build trust, and make themselves understood.

Paul is also a university lecturer in business and media at Swinburne Univeristy of Technology and doctoral researcher whose academic work explores trust, relationships, and value creation within international professional ecosystems. His research interests extend into mindfulness in management, cross-cultural organizations, communication, leadership, and the relationship between human behavior and organizational performance.

Alongside his academic and professional work, Paul has spent years creating documentaries, interviews, podcasts, articles, and travel media through Walkabout Rojo and as host of the Walkabout Elevations Podcast. Those experiences have reinforced a principle that now runs throughout Walkabout Pathways: good communication begins with curiosity.

His work today is at the heart of education and industry, theory and practice, East and West, and increasingly, between knowing something and being able to communicate it when it matters.
